“Didn’t you just take a break?” Milo pulled his baseball cap off and combed his hands through his hair. “Should I be concerned?”

“Concerned by what?” I made sure he saw me roll my eyes as I threw my leather gloves onto a wooden table in the middle of the horse stall. “I’m a growing boy who needs nourishment.” I turned to head out of the barn. “Want anything from the cafe?” 

I thought about calling in sick this morning. I couldn’t get Holland out of my mind for the last two days, and my unplanned visit was starting to mess with my head. One part of me still didn’t want to talk to her, and the other part wanted to have those few minutes at her house set on repeat.

“I know you’re lying.”

“Maybe, but I’ll never tell.” I didn’t turn back; I just kept walking toward the cafe. “Am I getting you anything?” 

“The usual.” Milo grabbed the pitchfork and added hay to the horse’s stall.
