When I left the cafe with the cake, I planned to go home, so why was I now parked outside the Snuggle-In veterinary clinic? 

Holland’s vehicle was parked in its usual spot under the willow tree. Yes, I knew her usual parking spot.

I glanced at the cake in the passenger seat, covered in foil. She made me a cake. A fucking delicious cake, too. I thought about the flavors and how the bourbon created the perfect bite from start to finish. 

Something new for me: Holland had become an amazing baker over the last twelve years. She used to make Snickerdoodle cookies and fudgy brownies, but I couldn’t remember if she had ever made a cake when we were together.
